About

What we do

Cardinal Philanthropies Foundation (Cardinal Philanthropies Stiftung) is a Swiss charitable foundation founded in 2025 and based in Rüschlikon, Canton of Zurich (UID: CHE-214.614.623).

We operates as a non-profit under Swiss law, dedicated to promoting quality education in rural and underserved areas of sub-Saharan Africa. The foundation provides targeted grants to registered non-profits for:

  • Building and equipping schools (classrooms, labs, libraries, computer rooms).
  • Developing and sharing digital/e-learning resources, curricula, and teaching tools.
  • Capacity-building for teachers and communities to ensure sustainable impact.

We also supports graduate research in electrical engineering (mainly in Europe) and e-learning initiatives in developing countries.

The foundation takes a proactive approach: The Board of Directors selects projects and grantees based on alignment, need, and impact potential—no unsolicited applications are accepted. Funding goes only to charitable organizations (no individuals, for-profits, scholarships, or direct aid).

Notable grantees include Helping Education Loretta Project (H.E.L.P.) in Ethiopia and Travel With A Mission (TWAM) for global educational volunteering.

Governed by a Board of Directors with strict due diligence, transparency, annual audits, and Swiss compliance (including AML), we emphasizes measurable, lasting results in education for brighter futures in rural Africa. Donations are tax-deductible in Switzerland.

Grantees

Helping Education Loretta Project (H.E.L.P)
https://ethiohelp.org/

A French non-profit association (based in La Turbie) dedicated to improving education in Ethiopia as a foundation for sustainable futures. Since 2014, it has built and equipped modern school blocks (over 46 to date), including classrooms, labs, libraries, and computer rooms, while providing essential materials, computers, English programs (via Moodle), and sponsorship/parrainage for over 100 underprivileged students. It partners closely with local Ethiopian communities in various regions (e.g., Zozo, Shama Laka, Dorzé) to ensure quality education access in public schools, with a strong focus on transparency, real impact, and tax-deductible donations.

Travel With A Mission (TWAM)
https://www.travelwithamission.org/

A non-profit organization focused on promoting engaged, meaningful travel (called “Twaming”) and citizen engagement. It connects individuals who want to share their knowledge, skills, or experience with projects worldwide through short-term volunteering, solidarity trips, and mission-based travel. They offer a catalog of volunteer opportunities, fully organized group missions, events, and ways for associations, schools, or companies to get involved (e.g., team-building solidarity programs, hosting volunteers, or corporate sponsorships). The emphasis is on intercultural dialogue, access to education, global awareness, and supporting projects of general interest through benevolent volunteering.

African School for Excellence (ASE)
https://ase.org.za/

A non-profit organization (registered as a Public Benefit Organization in South Africa and 501(c)(3) in the US, founded in 2011) dedicated to revolutionizing secondary education in disadvantaged areas, particularly townships in South Africa. It builds and operates a self-sustaining network of low-cost, high-quality independent secondary schools that deliver world-class education accessible to anyone, regardless of income. The model addresses key challenges in African education—poor quality and high costs—through innovative approaches like peer-based learning, structured curricula, scalable systems, and financial sustainability. Emphasis is on preparing students for university entrance, unlocking potential in underserved communities, and creating affordable excellence in education to transform individuals, families, and society.

Engage Now Africa – Ethiopia (ENA-ET)
https://engagenowafrica.org/

A non-profit organization founded in 2002, dedicated to healing, rescuing, and lifting vulnerable individuals, families, and communities in Sub-Saharan Africa out of extreme poverty toward self-reliance. It operates through three core programs: Heal (clean water, sanitation, health services, and medical access), Rescue (preventing human trafficking and modern slavery via training and awareness), and Lift (self-reliance through adult literacy, vocational training, micro-credit loans, education support, and income-generating activities). The focus is on sustainable, community-driven solutions that build local capacity, strengthen families, and meet essential needs like water, health, education, and economic empowerment—creating lasting impact and virtuous communities free of poverty.
